Check a warehouse's power supply before signing: upgrading a subscription or bringing in medium voltage takes months and often costs tens of thousands of dirhams. A building already fitted with an MV substation has real value. A warehouse roof suits solar self-consumption, once the frame has been checked.

An undersized connection can idle a production line for months. Energy deserves a chapter of its own in any industrial project.

Size the power first

Add up your machines, handling equipment, cold rooms and offices, apply a simultaneity factor, and keep 20–30% headroom. Compare the result with the subscribed kVA of the building — upgrading a connection with ONEE or the local operator takes time and civil works, so verify before signing, not after (it is one of the ten costliest mistakes).

Orders of magnitude by use:

UseOrder of magnitude
LED lighting of a 1,000 m² warehousea few kW
Forklift chargersseveral kW per station
Air compressorvariable, often 10 kW and more
Industrial refrigeration / cold roomheaviest item
Production machinerydepends on process

Three-phase, transformers, tariffs

Industrial units run on three-phase supply; larger consumers connect in medium voltage with their own transformer station — factor its cost and footprint into the project. Review the tariff structure against your load profile: peak-hour management alone can cut the bill significantly.

The roof is an asset

A warehouse roof is a ready-made solar field. Self-consumption photovoltaics shave daytime consumption — often the industrial peak — and improve the building's value and ESG profile. Morocco's irradiation is among the best in the Mediterranean basin; AMEE publishes guidance for industrial self-consumption projects. Structural check first: panels add load the frame must carry.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a warehouse has enough power?

Add up your equipment (forklifts, compressors, cold rooms, machines) with a margin, then compare with the certified subscription in kVA. A tight subscription blocks growth.

Low or medium voltage for an industrial site?

Above a power threshold, connection is in medium voltage with a transformer substation: a significant investment, but the kWh is usually cheaper.

How long does an industrial power connection take?

From several weeks to several months depending on the power requested and the grid, after applying to ONEE or the local distributor (Lydec, RADEEMA, Amendis…).

Can I install solar on a rented warehouse?

Yes, with the owner's written consent and a clause on what happens to the installation at the end of the lease, after checking the frame and waterproofing.

Sources and verification

  • ONEE — connections and industrial tariffs
